Luxembourg is a country of only 998 sqare miles. New Hampshire, USA is 9,349 sqare miles. Heck, Rhode Island is 1,045 sqare miles, and that doesn't include the water (1,544 square miles with the water). So, it does not take long to visit this country. It's about 48 miles tall and 34 miles wide at it's widest part.

The areas I rode in were beautiful valleys along rivers for the most part. Plenty of Farmland. Not many tourists, partly because it is off season, partly because it just isn't on the radar for a lot of tourists. I only spent the day there, but I think it would be worth a couple of days.

Below are a few pics from the American War Cemetery and from Vianden Castle.

The AMERICAN CEMETERY

There is not much that can be said. This place is the final resting grounds for far too many of our young men. General Patton was buried here per his wishes.

VIANDEN CASTLE

Well, another castle. This one had some interesting displays, and was an easy one to walk around. It was worth the stop, plus it is in a valley that is well worth the ride off season. The scenery was not dramatic, but it was pretty, the roads were good and it was relaxing with no tourists.

Per Wiki - Vianden Castle, located in Vianden in the north of Luxembourg, is one of the largest fortified castles west of the Rhine. With origins dating from the 10th century, the castle was built in the Romanesque style from the 11th to 14th centuries. Gothic transformations and trimmings were added at the end of this period. A Renaissance mansion was added in the 17th century but thereafter the castle was allowed to fall into ruins. It has, however, recently been fully restored and is open to visitors.

A pretty fancy gear set up for raising water from the very deep well.

Tell me this J. Geils band song intro doesn't pop into your head when you see this tower....
Take your big curls and squeeze them down Ratumba -
What's the name of the chick with the long hair?
(Rapunzel!) Hey Rapunzel!
Heh heh... Hey Reputa the beautah! Reputa the Beautah!
Hey Reputa the Beautah flip me down your hair
And let me climb up to the ladder of your love!!

OK, maybe it is just me. Maybe I've been on the road too long.
